I guess you could call me a “once again” runner. After disappearing from the running scene for a few years, the summer of 2007 found me using a road trip to try and get that desire back. A road trip of some 8,112 miles!
It wasn’t just about getting that desire back. I was standing on the cusp of turning the big 4-0 and found myself looking back over the years – all those years that just flew by in the blink of an eye. Time doth fly swiftly…
Trip 2008 has different meaning. It’s more about the celebration of life – those 40 years of partial memory and those to come. It’s also about seeing America and all of it’s great parts, the best way that I know how – on a runner’s high. And it’s about giving.
One thing that I wanted but failed to do in 2007 was to have a focus on charities throughout America. This year’s will have that focus. My hope is that this blog…this little piece of what I can offer, will in some way do some good.
So, come along for the ride – it should be another great adventure!

Chris,
Sounds like you are having an good time, despite the rude New York City female runner. Does not sound like you are letting it bother you enough to “click your heels”and go back to Kansas with Toto in tow to Auntie Em.
I will be anxiously awaiting each day’s blog. Have a great time and stay safe and sane.
Love,
Aunt Kathy
Thanks, Kathy! Was quite happy to get out of NYC. D.C. was completely the opposite!! Talk to you, soon!
Chris
Fun to read your blogs again, Chris, and your pictures are great! Will travel along with you as you make your way down the East Coast. Having visited DC just a couple of years ago, it brings back many memories.
Hope all goes well and that you have a great run!
The Rettig’s
Thanks, Mary and Jim! Mom was saying today that she would like to get back to DC for their 50th Anniversary – I think its a great choice!
